SCBWI Portfolio Showcase 2009

The Society of Children's Book Writers And Illustrators' Winter Conference was just held in beautiful and busy Manhattan, at the Grand Hyatt Hotel.   Over 150 children's book illustrator portfolios were on display, first, for a panel of judges, and then available for others to view.  The illustrations and images contained within each portfolio were described with words such as, "Stunning", "Dazzling", and "Amazing".
This photo shows the setup just prior to the judges arriving to privately look through each and every portfolio, and then to put their heads together and decide on three distinctive awards to be announced the next morning to the 1,000 attendees in the main conference ballroom.

The awards included a Grand Prize Award, and Two Honor Awards.  To see and read about the winning portfolios and the amazing illustrators, along with many photos of the whole conference itself, please check out this fun blog!

Hi Priscilla, how did you like the SCBWI NY conference? I went a few years ago when it was at the Roosevelt and have thought about going back.

Thanks for your comment on my blog!! And it was great meeting you in person at CHA.

Hi Phyllis,
Well the SCBWI NY conference was very well attended this year! Amazing and wonderful, as folks really are putting their energies and monies towards their careers in this way!

The portfolio content was amazing as well ~ it is only our second year displaying portfolios in ny. We do it each year in LA at the Summer Conference, and it's always great to hear success stories from both.
