It always amazes me how a subtle line change can alter a character's personality or attitude.
This little girl on the left was the first doodle of the sketch that would become the finished image below.
Once she was created, the idea for what would take place around her began to take shape. I knew it would be an image of Mother's Day, and that she is watching her mom from a somewhat hidden place . . . Her expression tells me what's just happened, what's about to happen, what promises to be happening soon.
The second doodle of her has a change in the line of her mouth. I was contemplating ...should she be just plain ol' happy or something else? Turns out she was just trying to hide from her mom until the Mother's Day breakfast she made was discovered.
Of course, then, what would be her mom's response to the lovely greeting awaiting her early today?
What emotion would she show on her face? body language?
Oh, the joys of being an illustrator. =0)

Oh, I just love this! All the little things to look at and discover...just warms the heart. And I like how you showed us the different expressions in the sketch before the finish. Your finished piece is just right; the girl's expression is adorable.
